Our Commitment to Stand Against Racial Injustice

June 25, 2020

The Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church of Minneapolis - St Paul is deeply saddened by the murder of George Floyd and sends its heartfelt condolences and prayers to his family, friends, and community.

The horror of Mr. Floyd’s death has illuminated the violence, injustice, and systemic oppression that people of color in our community experience every day. We condemn such violence and racism against Black lives, against all people of color, and against all ethnic minorities.

We believe that all humans are created in the image of God. Therefore, we pray we are granted the understanding and strength to actively fight racism, both implicit and systemic; to help our neighbors transform our community from one devastated by fear, misunderstanding, and violence into one that is peaceful and vibrant; and to reflect God’s reconciliation and abundant love for every human life.

The Twin Cities provided a home for Latvians forced from their native land. Supporting our community in this time of change is a way for our church to express our gratitude and love for the people of Minneapolis and St. Paul and surrounding areas. We stand with our brothers and sisters, and together we work for a just and peaceful world.
